First things first.

The big day went well--our five year program review. All the food was delivered, possibly minus one lunch, but that was okay. All the people showed up--or enough of them, anyway. We had great conversations and the great conversations will, we hope, continue. My outfit, in other words, was an unqualified success.

Now, after the circus has come and gone, I would just like to note that:

  • all day I was a little dehydrated.
  • currently, my hips hurt and the soles of my feet feel dry and consequently a little itchy.
  • I am way past tired, so tired that I am fretting about whether people respect me. (p.s., when I am worrying about that, I should always just go take a big fat nap, or, you know, go to bed for the night. Because the next day when I wake up it's easy to see how ridiculous that whole respect thing was.) (...unless people really DON'T respect me--what then? what nap will cure THAT?)

Tomorrow is Friday, and it is a full day, but not a day in which I am in charge of very many things, nor a day when I anticipate being dehydrated or tired past the point of reason. And after Friday? Saturday, the people.

Now, I intend to
  • put on my nightgown
  • brush my teeth
  • do the crossword and possibly also, and simultaneously,
  • watch episodes of some sitcom or other
  • fall asleep.
I know, that's not much of an agenda. I like to think of it more as medicine for an ague that I hope will have passed by morning.

Big day OUT.

Well well well.

I have accomplished the following recently:

1. achieved the insight that, if I'm behind, I feel I don't have time to write--or that taking time to write might put me further behind, so, you know. Hence, no writing.
2. what the hell.

That said,

3. I arrived home from Seattle,
4. did the laundry,
5. cooked a dinner last night,
6. enthused/ranted about the Oscar on various social media, and to Bruiser and the historian,
7. made pancakes for myself,
8. made approximately 4% progress on my To Do list,
9. ate lunch with my daughter and granddaughter,
10. came home and made 4% more progress (total, if you're keeping track: 8% progress),
11. was the guest speaker in the class of a friend,
12. came home and ordered a vegetable pizza like a boss,
13. and so forth.

Upshot: still behind, but writing a list-y blog post.

One of the things on my list was to

14. organize all AWP notes, which
15. I have not yet done.

I do, however, have all my AWP swag

16. organized in a single bag.
17. the AWP tote bag. So, you know.
18. what the hell.

That said, I did

19. make a new header and background for my blog, and
20. write/"write" a blog post. So, you know.

That is twenty things I have accomplished, the people. I don't know what you're complaining about.

Bonus accomplishments:

21. clean sheets,
22. have listened to new Beck album (verdict: gorgeous)
23. have chatted with son in China and
24. both other sons via text. AND
25. I have a more than vague idea of what I will do in class, and
26. most importantly, I have a plan to accomplish all the other stuff I need to get done. So, you know.

A plan is literally the best.

the progress.

Here is a list of things I forgot to do this week:

but I did

so I think that's mostly a win.

So very productive.

I have made new Course Curriculum Outlines for four courses and updated another.

I have sent off the article counterintuitive and I wrote.

I finished a textbook review and sent it back to the publishers.

I have consulted with several students already, giving them written feedback on their midterm portfolios.

I have drafted the English 2010 Assessment Report and sent it to the committee for its review.

I cooked dinner.

I uploaded music to my tiny, new iPod Shuffle. A weird mix, it must be said, because I have moved most of my music files to an external drive--what's still on this hard drive is stuff like Richard Thompson's sountrack to Grizzly Man, the 1990s Cookies, Brad Mehldau, The Band, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and Combat Rock. Great, on the one hand, but can you dance to it? on the other.

I wore an exceedingly stylish and fetching outfit today.

I did not lose my temper when I was locked out of my classroom today (when I went to Facilities, even they could not let me in--what is that about?).

I did the New York Times crossword (to be fair, it was the Monday one).

Perhaps I should run for President of the United States, or Queen of the World, or Empress of Music, or something. I'm pretty sure I could really get things done.
